Welcome to the 2021/22 school year!

Hi all - welcome back to the 2021/22 school year! It's not actually hear *yet* as we have a few more weeks of vacation, but I wanted to post a quick hello and share some information.

This year there will be classes in the library again. Yay! Students will learn about book care, library usage, digital literacy, online safety, robotics, and other fun stuff. We will also read the book award books together and have some fun with related activities. If you're interested in the book award books, here are the lists:

I hope you have been reading this summer and enjoying the sunshine (when it isn't raining!). I can't wait to see everyone back in the library again soon! The fish are excited to see you too! They get lonely over the summer.

Fish update

Thanks to a generous parent we now have an awesome light on the fish tank!  It totally changes the whole look.  I love it!

My #FISH kind of glows too.

We also have a batch (litter? clusters?) of fish babies who are thriving!  These fish reproduce regularly, but generally the babies don't survive very long.  For some reason one group of them is surviving and thriving!  It's pretty cool.  They are still small, but so much bigger than when they first hatched from their fishy eggs.

Can you see any babies?

There's one, right by the thermometer.
Thanks Mr. Griswold!  We all appreciate the light!  Teacher, students, fish, and plants. :)

New year, new fish

My daughter and I cleaned the fish tank over vacation, and unfortunately several of the cichlids didn't survive the stress of my lack of fish knowledge.  We were able to save one, but the other four were belly up too fast! 😞

I called my friend for advice and she and her family so generously donated an afternoon to helping me get that tank back in order and ready for some new fish.  Yesterday we picked out five Molly fish and one Alge eater, hoping they would all play nicely with the remaining cichlid, nicknamed "baby fish."

So far everyone is settling in and seems happy, or so we think, it's hard to tell with fish!

The kids were all happy to find the pretty new tank and shiny new fish to welcome them back to the library.
